Bernardo Ferdman, Ph.D. principal and founder of Ferdman Consulting, focuses on supporting leaders and organizations in bringing inclusion to life, on inclusive leadership, and executive coaching. He is passionate about creating an inclusive world where more people can be fully themselves and accomplish goals effectively, productively, and authentically.
Bernardo is a leadership and OD consultant and board-certified coach, and a renowned expert on inclusion and diversity with 35+ years’ experience in the U.S. and around the world. A distinguished professor emeritus of organizational psychology at Alliant International University, Bernardo is also Expert Panelist for the Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Benchmarks, created and was the first director of the Inclusive Leadership Program at UCLA Anderson Executive Education, was the 2020 H. Smith Richardson Jr. Visiting Fellow at the Center for Creative Leadership, and served as president of the Diversity Collegium and in various other leadership roles.
Bernardo created Inclusion@Work®, a digital coaching platform for learning about inclusion, and the Workplace Inclusion Inventory™, a pioneering research-based measure of the experience of inclusion and inclusive behavior in organizations. He has written numerous articles and chapters, has made 300+ presentations, and has conducted research on various aspects of inclusion, identity, leadership, and multicultural issues. Bernardo’s 2014 book, Diversity at Work: The Practice of Inclusion (co-edited with Barbara Deane), provides a research-based understanding of inclusion. His most recent book, Inclusive Leadership: Transforming Diverse Lives, Workplaces, and Societies (co-edited with Jeanine Prime & Ronald Riggio) provides a comprehensive view of inclusive leadership.
Bernardo is a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the Society of Consulting Psychology (SCP), and various other professional groups. He served as chair of the Academy of Management’s Diversity and Inclusion Theme Committee and of its Gender and Diversity in Organizations Division, and as president of the Interamerican Society of Psychology. Bernardo has received various awards, including SCP’s 2019 Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Consulting. Bernardo—a native Spanish speaker who immigrated to the U.S. as a child—earned a Ph.D. in Psychology at Yale University and an A.B. degree at Princeton University.
